001 002 — Have you actually listened to Yang? I was like you, I thought Yang was promising golden parachutes to the masses to get votes. But his ideas actually have merit! Consider the automation on the horizon, retail or any cash register type of jobs gone, taxi and truck drivers are going to be history, manufacturing and meat production jobs going soon, tech jobs are even becoming so specialized they are declining. We ARE going to reach a point soon where no one will be able to afford to buy anything because so many Americans will be jobless. What he is talking about is not welfare, and frankly I don’t see his ideas attractive at this time, his plan is to tax industry’s for jobs lost due to automation, and distribute them. Sounds bonkers until you THINK about it. Ever wonder why Amazon and Apple are so profitable? Ever wonder why auto makers are profitable again, less and less people employed to do the work, more automation. Not sure where you are in this country, but every store I go to now has only a few human cashiers left, most are self check out lanes. And we aren’t just talking grocery stores, Sams Club, Walmart, even fast food joints are now offering you to pay at the order point with a card to "expedite" your order. You don’t have to pay a machine but once, no insurance, no unemployment, no benefits, no lunches, no breaks, no vacations.

69ing chipmunks — You’re right about the current political climate. But auto-checkout is here, the systems cost about 1.5 times the annual cost of the annual salary of 2 human checkers. But they do the work of 3, cost nothing to insure, use no benefits, no retirement, take no breaks, lunches or vacations. Auto-driving vehicles are here, and will be completely automated in 5 to 10 years according to projections. Ads for Uber-Transport are playing now, ads for Volvo, peter built and Freightliner atuopiloted trucks are playing now, and are in their initial test phases. There are an estimated 80 million taxi and truck drivers that will be initially impacted, more as they are more accepted. The rate at which technology doubles is shortening, your 100 year projection is off by 80 to 90 years. Doubt me, go shopping.
