The second amendment was written with the concept that an armed populace being able to protect the nation from outside invasion and keep the government from getting too powerful. That concept remained true until 1940ā€™s when we entered the nuclear age, then it became moot. Given our current level of military technology the concept of individuals being a deterrent to invasion is laughable. Protect our persons, perhaps, our homes, maybe, but allowing the average, non-military trained and not currently enlisted citizen to purchase assault rifles or any fully automatic weapon is unconscionable.

Trump didnā€™t do this for altruistic reasons like Biden, he did it to use a foreign nation to sway voters in the 2020 election a month or so in the then future.
