  1. Using the second amendment to validate gun ownership is ludicrous. The second amendment was written with the concept that an armed populace being able to protect the nation from outside invasion and keep the government from getting too powerful. That concept remained true until 1940’s when we entered the nuclear age, then it became moot. Given our current level of military technology the concept of individuals being a deterrent to invasion is laughable. Protect our persons, perhaps, our homes, maybe, but allowing the average, non-military trained and not currently enlisted citizen to purchase assault rifles or any fully automatic weapon is unconscionable.

  2. davey jones — Liberal dribble? Seriously? Gun laws DO need to be changed and strengthened. Any, ANY derivative comment is unconscionable and perpetuates the problem. To call this liberal dribble literally makes you partly responsible for future tragedies. Wake the heck up.

  3. Stephen Smith — you may be referring to the OTHER officer who sat in his car outside a school exit. That officer was disciplined and forced to take early retirement by THIS guy, the police chief (captain?). I think the BETTER question might be ‘Why is it a national police policy to wait, and assess the situation before entry as to not endanger officers lives.’ We expect the police to be supermen, military mindsets, when they are in reality just like YOU and I, they are our friends and neighbors.

  4. It might be worth mentioning that it is standard police policy to not needlessly endanger officers lives. They assess the situation before the entry. I’m not saying that it shouldn’t be different, especially when it comes to school shooting incidents. We are just not there yet.

  5. WickedlyLuv — Sadly it is pretty much every police policy in the USA to assess a situation before entry as to not endanger police lives. School situations SHOULD be the exception, I agree with you. We just aren’t there yet.

  6. James Kat — Nice thought, but please listen again to the part where the young girl says "bump stop modifications." You can legally purchase gun mods for semi-auto rifles and handguns that will convert them to full auto. Yes, they can NOT be sold as fully automatic, but they can be legally modified by the user to be full auto. Irrelevant in this discussion as the types of weapons used were semi-automatic.

Hadn’t heard about bump stocks until the girl mentioned it in a question as to if the NRA spokesperson was for or against semi and fully automatic being harder to obtain. However, converting a handgun or rifle from semi to full auto is very doable. I am not pretending to be an expert, just a responsible gun owner.

  10. Zach Pierce — I was referring to the effectiveness of a handgun or rifle against a helicopter, drone or nuke. As far as the government taking personal weapons, search for that here on YouTube AND hurricane Katrina. That is EXACTLY what police, military, and national guard did. No joke.

  11. WeeItsNookies — Far left? Me? I am a CHL gun owner, an NRA supporter, and I think I am a responsible gun owner. I think you are missing my point, if the NRA doesn’t STOP fighting any and all efforts to curb events such as these, to make concessions, and more events such as these occur, we can expect a major backlash. If public opinion shifts enough, the USA will ban ALL weapons just like Australia and other nations have. That you or anyone could think otherwise is incredibly naive. I don’t want the second amendment to change, I don’t want to lose the right to protect my person, home or family. I don’t EVER want to see another school or mass shooting. But evidently you either do, or are just fine with that. If I scare you, YOU terrify me.

  12. WeeItsNookies — that is not my point, and you know it. If we fight ALL gun purchase and sale checks or reform, and this trend continues, we deserve to lose the second amendment. I own several semi-automatic weapons, and some large clips for them. I’m a calm, quiet person, clean record, but the shooters seem to all have ‘red-flag’ issues that should have either blocked or caused additional research by law enforcement in a perfect world. Currently the different agencies databases are NOT linked to the Federal databases as mentioned in this video. If we don’t work towards positive change, the potential backlash will be extreme.
