I’m losing my faith in law enforcement. A decade back an officer told me he smelled Marijuana, and I said he had an amazing nose. He placed me in handcuffs in the back of his car while he removed everything from my car, even my back seat, my luggage was opened, everything tossed, dumped on the ground, then he came back to the car demanding to know where I hid the pot. I just smiled and said there was none. He insisted I admitted to drug use, and repeatedly demanded to know where and threatening to impound my car. I kept saying no drugs, and when he repeated that I said he had a good nose, I responded my step brothers forced me to smoke pot when I was 13, so yeah, you have an amazing nose as it’s been over 15 years ago. He left in a huff and it took me about an hour to repack my luggage and put the back seat back in my car. I was searched again years later after I asked if I had a choice when he asked to search my car. He called a k9 officer, and the friendliest tail-wagging dog ever pee’d on my tires and they said he signaled and searched. I’m tired of this, it’s been multiple times, you have no right to say no, they can lie and make up shit to search, and we have no options but to comply.

@ianbattles7290 — Police are allowed by law to lie on their job, on their reports and in court. IMO that destroys all faith in their word, and removes all trust. And I think that’s sad as hell.

Yup, I had the friendliest tail-wagging dog ever pee on my tires and they said he signaled. Never sat, never paused, never barked. The officers searched everything everywhere and found nothing. No big deal, but I was on vacation and had to put everything back, including the back seat, it took over an hour.

chrismadison305 — No. just no. I have never done drugs, smoked pot, whatever. Aspirin is my drug of choice. I bought that car from my dad, which was his old company car. Dad drank, and smoked cigarettes, but was very religious and also against drugs. You are making false assumptions, I’m guessing your comment says more about you, than me.

@grandarchon6969 — As I said before, half true. They aren’t supposed to lie in their reports, or court testimony… BUT THEY DO. Worse, when caught, such as video showing the officer arresting for resisting when the suspect did nothing physical whatsoever, they face zero repercussions from the court, or their department. To them it’s just another lost case, no big deal. I’ve seen their reports, and testimony in court proven false multiple times, and the court often takes the officers lies over witnesses testimony AND video evidence. We will just have to agree to disagree on this issue. 😊

@tomholfield8781 — Yes, they do. A dog is essentially just an excuse to search, signaling? What is that? Was it the dogs tail wagging, his peeing on my tire, or the way he kept looking at you?

@tomholfield8781 — Nope, the dog never barked, never sat. It was happy, tail wagging, and if ‘sniffing’ means putting his nose where the officer pointed… maybe. To me it looked like the dog was looking for treats.

@Kmmlc — I admire your spirit, but my experience (Texas) has shown otherwise. In 5 years I assisted a legal firm working on defenses, I ran across the same officers year after year, where we were able to get cases dismissed on video evidence showing the officers reports, and testimony in court were not what happened. Few people have the resources or time to pursue litigation. Settlements ‘may’ get the department to reprimand or terminate the officers, but those actions are to prevent future financial losses, not because the officers lies or character. I’ve known a single officer who injured (minor) someone in an arrest, and I did see him in court wearing another neighboring city’s uniform shortly afterwards. I spoke with him, and he just said he accepted a better offer closer to his house. I saw the same officers losing cases over and over, and never once was I aware of any reprimand or dismissal.

@Kmmlc — I get that, but as I stated in other responses I have witnessed police lie in their reports, lie on the stand, the when video shows both to be false — The officers suffer zero consequences whatsoever. Police know this, and use it to their advantage.

@cassinihuygens I get that, but they suffer zero repercussions from lying on their reports OR in court. So I say legal, you can call it overlooked, but the end result is the same. They lie, and know it doesn’t only not really matter, it is sanctioned by all.

@pieterwillembotha6719 — I did, I was raised to believe in law and order, that the police were here to help and protect us, and that they were people of integrity, the best of the best. Now I believe them to just be human, working blokes like you and I, as imperfect and flawed as the general population.

@SMDoktorPepper — All I know is we have no rights without proof they are legally allowed to lie in their job, reports and in court. I got lucky, they didn’t plant evidence. 👍🏽 Saying “No, I do not give permission to search my car” is pointless when they can say you did, or call a K9 officer who will secretly signal psychically to the officer is laughable. We think we have rights, but we do not.

@I_S_Chew — It is a big deal, I know. I just meant an hour of my time repacking my suitcases and putting the backs seat in wasn’t a big deal. My main point was it’s pointless to resist. They can and do lie, their reports and court testimony back up those lies and we can go bankrupt trying to defend ourselves in court. The false concept that ‘we have rights’ is a fantasy.
