@drterminator5082 subtle lie by you there. They were targeted in a different way. The " people" of the book were denigrated as dhimma, and were told convert, pay the jizya or die. So don't make out the Jews, Christian's and Zoastrians were just dandy, far from it.

Ibn Khaldun (1332-1406), a Maliki jurist as well as a pioneering historian and philosopher who authored one of the first works of historiography, likewise notes that “in the Muslim community, the holy war is a religious duty, because of the universalism of the Muslim mission and (the obligation to) convert everybody to Islam either by persuasion or by force.” Islam is “under obligation to gain power over other nations.”

@drterminator5082 Nice cut and paste. Don't disagree with any of that commentary. The issue is, what happens if those individuals refuse to pay Jizzya when they are living on their ancestral homeland? That is the burning question. They don't acknowledge Islam as having authority over them.

There is no system of belief that comes even close to the proliferation of terrorists acts committed by Islam. I don't know what book you are referring to, I quote from primary sources Ibn Kalduhn and Kathir. People are not idiots, you are trying to justify the unjustifiable. Jihad is a well established doctrine in Islam, a sailient feature in it's ancient history and STILL a modern expression by Sunni and Shia Islam. My understanding of the dhimma comes from Bat Yeor's book, " understanding dhimmitude" and the lectures of Raymond Ibrahim an Egyptian Coptic historian fluent in greek, Coptic and Arabic. You would call him an Islamaphobe, I call him an Islamorealist.

@drterminator5082 The problem you face is, I don't even need to read anti Islamic literature. The original sources are all there on the net to read. They condemn Islam. So when I read of groups like Hezbolah, Daesh, Boko Haram and many others citing the same texts as a scriptural justification for violence against the infidel, I am not convinced by your " mistakes made in the past", these are modern expressions that derive their inspiration, sanction and normalisation from Islamic scripture.

@drterminator5082 No, many of those 1.8 billion have no idea what Quran, Sunna and hadith say, some have just been lied to, many are committed to violence against non Muslim states and many are too impoverished to do anything.

@drterminator5082 No, the passage is VERY CLEAR. If the prisoners of war refuse to accept Islam, they are taxed. If they refuse to pay tax, they are killed. Please explain to me where exactly they are being protected? This is is a Mafioso styled protection racket. Pay us the Jizya and feel yourself subdued or we will fight you and kill you. So much for, " there is no compulsion in religion." You have come a long way from a taxation system for the non believer.
