That's the issue though... that woman's brain was being "fixed" in that loop... so perhaps her free will was limited, responding exactly the same to the same stimuli doesn't disprove free will either it just proves that the person would choose the same actions each time.

@xerr0n We could be using biofuels NOW but bureaucracy and lobbyists stand in the way. Brazil's automotive fleet is already over 40% biofuel... and their fuel prices are actually lower than many places in the US right now (especially diesel). And brazil is doing that without GMO biofuels, once they switch to lipidcane and lipidsorghum they will see a boost in crop productivity as well as refinery utilization due to the extended season via sorghum. This should be somewhere around 10-15x greater productivity on the same land or reduced land use...

@JonBrase Quasi anarchism is a nonsensical way to describe classical liberalism in the US which many "conservatives" espouse. It is like libertarianism with a stronger sense of duty and acceptance of limits on liberty due to that, (eg you cannot murder your offsping even if they are not born yet... gasp!) but only in so much as these things promote good choices and only punish bad choices (eg what you actually choose to do is up to you so long as it doesn't harm anyone else).

FYI, you never should have had faith in science... it isn't a religion. Or was it for you. I'm a Christian by the way ... science is science, it doesn't require faith, that's kind of just what it is as long as its staying within it's lines. The only physics guy I knew personally went nuts and is in jail and threatened to kill the DA... sigh. he wasn't religious BTW. You might say I'm trollin, but no, life is just really that weird and off the wall.

Science has ADHD... instead of focusing on the task at hand it is checking the effects of the cocaine on the mating habits of birds and plants. That is curiosity ... perhaps. But it is not science. Some science is slowing down because of diminishing returns... so we have to refocus those efforts on different aspects to regain improvements. Eg lithium ion batteries are nearing diminishing returns, etc etc... and we have to refocus on sodium so we can get more materials instead of relying on a single rare element that is hard to mine and dispose of later.

What would solve this is converting national forests to restricted commercial lumber, this would fund maintenance of the forests, while preventing undergrowth from becoming a fire hazard. Its dumb to have a "national forest" near homes that is going completely unmaintained and in fact in a worse than natural state because fires are suppressed.

While I only have a bachelors degree... I think most of my classmates at the time saw all the same problems you did, some additional ones even in my university in the US..... I think the university system is fundamentally broken. The flip side of this is some professors get tenure and never suceed at anything after that... one old professor who has now passed always since a few years, had been making 85k per year since the mid 80s at my university and had not had a single graduate student... acutally he did have one and they switched to a different professor before completing because he was that useless. Another professor I had was ridiculed for only having a Masters degree, even though he was one of the best TEACHERS I had, he was passionate about teaching also.
