  1. Its not the same concept at all... its an opposed piston engine (very common configuration for naval powerplants as they are extremely reliable and efficient). They are still produced by Fairbanks Morse for many applications. There are different arrangements for how power is transfered in these engines (levers to the central crank or gears typically). Achates Power also has modern designs of this engine for automotive application.
