@edwinkm2016 That isn't true... Proxmox is just debian... and so supports auto shutdown with APC UPS in the same ways as any other debian install you have to manually setup auto shutdown but its not correct to say it can't be done or that is is particularly hard. We have a ACE X570 WS + 128GB ECC + 5950x , and 2 backup servers for critical services at work... works fine and we use replication to the backup boxes to keep the images in sync. Proxmox is great for 3 nodes to 32nodes, if you don't fit in that profile maybe its not for you but that probably covers 99% of uses cases.

Or if you have fast enough network.. but the drives are too slow (in a lower end system).

The post did say gigabits... the cards can do 10Gbits. You mixed up GB and Gb.

I couldn't possibly care less about how pretty the UI is... I just want it to work, and work correctly and intuitively (eg following the principle of least astonishment). I will admit the different trees Proxmox puts things in is a bit wacky... and they should just abandon that and stick to one that just works.

I've tested that with pcie ethernet passthrough on Truenas 12 works there, but passthrough broke on my box for Truenas 13. Mainly just a way to give an underutilized NAS something else to do. And yes it is very basic.

One thing most people don't realize is both windows and *nix system can mount drives on a subdirectory of another drive... poor mans tiered storage.

@LAWRENCESYSTEMS Just reserve the NIC as if you were going to do a VM pass through and it won't even be active in the OS at all... I believe this would just be adding a pptdevs="0/0/0" with the actual device id to loader.conf which you can do from the web UI.

Except H10 series devices have the Optane Name but are just regular flash with Optane cache (worst of both worlds for this use case). Also the 16GB drives don't have much endurance, get at least the 119GB Optane 800P or a 900 series + or obviously a DC Optane drive would be fine for that use.
