  1.  @michalsvihla1403  this doesn't change the fact that 8 is better than 10 if you replace the shell.... its lighter faster better, its a refined windows 7. Windows 10 however does the same thing that windows 11 does to 10... and that is add more bloat and telemetry . windows 8.1 without the UI nonsense really is good.

  2. A better question... why are modern computers so much faster but relatively not faster to use. For example office productivity is pretty much stagnant since the days you could get a mac with Office 5.0... in some cases the productivity of computers may even be much lower for some people (such as those not using ad blockers), compared to use of computers in the mostly offline or dialup days where you'd have maybe an offline thesaurus + encyclopedia perhaps 1/20th the size of wikipedia (currently sitting at 21GB for all articles compressed). Game graphics are better, but many vintage games can challege them head on for game complexity with many modern RPGs being less complex that some from the early 90s.

  3. DDR5 is dual channel per dimm... so to be technically correct dual dimm DDR5 desktops are quad channel. The width of each channel is halved though relative to DDR4. Probably the main reason for this swtich is increased number cores in the average CPU... and 2 channels not really keeping up so cores would have to wait too frequently to start acessing while, with smaller quad channels at double the rate (DDR4 vs DDR5) you can relieve some of those problems.

  4. WinDirStat is open source... and good enough. The other alternatives are binary only distributions.
