Actually you are both wrong... it isn't a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke, its a rotary and completes a combustion cycle every revolution of the crank similar to a 2 stroke except that it has distinct intake compression ignition and exhaust stages during a single revolution of the rotor, also noteworthy is that the are 3 combustion stages per revolution of the rotor but only one per revolution of the output shaft due to gearing. Its combustion cycle is more similar to a 4 stroke but the 1 combustion per revolution is more similar to piston based 2 strokes. If anything you could call it a single cycle engine...as there is no reciprocation it just completes the cycle and repeated.

  4. If the MX-5 had a lot more power... it probably wouldn't be as fun. Fast != Fun in all cases and Mazda understands that. 5.8 seconds is like twice as fast as my old Acura CL now that is a slow car. If they ever make a higher powered version they should have a detune options "eco fun race" etc... so you get those fun revs and good low end torque while not feeling like you have to go easy on it (just go watch some Mustang / Corvette spinout videos etc..) I kind of expect that once the Skyactive-X is in the MX-5.
