It absolutely does not address all the problems... that engine is obviously going to have high wear on that scotch yoke.... and probably need replacement every few tens of k of miles... while normal boxer engines last hundreds of thousands of miles with minimal maintenance.

Except the title is completely misleading... as there are two stroke gasoline and two stroke diesels are that mechanically significantly different than what is presented here.

Yeah except this is only one type of two stroke engine... and one type of 4 stroke, and it is presented as if where a be all and end all demostration when in fact it is just a tiny slice of the possibilites and what exists. 2 stroke marine engines and 2 stroke diesels are BOTH different from what is presented here and even among the diesels there are different types.

Frankly this is bullshit because we already have existing engines past the design phase, that are both more reliable and more efficient and cheaper to make but they still haven not entered production. See Acahtes power both gasoline and diesel engines that operate at better than 2027 emissions while having no head on the engine so drastically reduce complexity.

It is also worth nothing that is a single type of 2 stroke... the gasoline two stroke and it is possible to build very different types of engiens with a 2 stroke cycle. The 2 stroke diesel for instance..... one of the most important engines of the last century.

It's still a 2 stroke... the naming is cringe. Just because your crank happens to be a 2:1 reduction, the cycle you are implementing is still 2 cycles. Also this design has lots of issues a conventional 2 crank 2 stroke doesnt' have. That waving thing... is a very complex problem because the rollers on it are never going in a straight line...

What can be better than a free valve engine.... a no valve engine, literally just take an achates power 2 stroke a slap it in everything. They have the ACE contract with the military, 270hp f-150 getting 37mpg in 2018, and 10.7L heavy truck engies in testing with Walmart and Tyson. If they were able to scale it down to a 1L engine maybe we'd even see a MX-5 like roadster getting over 30mpg... mpg for the MX-5 has been a joke for awhile now..... the far more useful if less fun, Honda insight had double that a 2 decades ago. I think a hatch roadster from Mazda would be pretty cool, because they get the sporty factor right where Honda and Toyota often miss at least in that segment anyway. The achates engines would probably loose out on peak power... but a 1L engine doesn't need to make 200hp... it only needs to make about a 100hp to be useful, if a 1.6 can make 160... that again is about all you need. My 1L in my Honda insight makes a whopping 65hp... and thats only at WOT. Where 2 stroke opposed pistons shine is effiency, its making that 100hp at around 50-55% effiency and the emissions are excellent due to the long cooler burning stroke.

@dennythescar80s8 I have a 2017 honda... the service interval on the chain is only 100k... because of shitty tensioner and guides.

I don't see this beating the liquid though....

At least Cummins is making an Achates engine... the alphadan appears to still be a venture capitalist scam.
