It was oddly touching that the site remains a 'pocket park'.

Love the perfect symmetry of the power house.

"skirmishes with cannonballs.". What a life. Perfect house. Wish people building new old house would copy this.

That "prefabricated" staircase is magnificent. Todays prefab building materials don't quite measure up. 😅

The video image alone was enough to send me go ogling. Wow, so many beautiful houses built by one family. The 'Fabulous Fahnestocks' could have been a film by Orson Wells. My favourite was one not shown in the video, 'Ker Arvor' built for Snowden Fahnestock in Newport in 1932, so they still had money in the depression. It's a mansion yes, but not a marble palace, and still a private home.

Well, being a child riding your tricycle up and down the 112 ft hall would have been fun.

Favourites from this video were the master bedroom/ballroom, and Ken's suit.

All magnificent but my favourite Duke mansion is one that wasn't built. Horace Trumbauer designed an enormous French chateau style mansion for Duke Farms. The floor plan and an image of what it would have looked like can be found on-line.

I love a limestone vestibule.

I like that I was surprised by the ending. Still standing.

Wow. Favourite houses were the first two and the last two. The second one was extraordinary. The interior detail and the facade. The second last one, by Julia Morgan, I'd love a smaller version of that house. Number one pick for me though is the guest house of the last house shown. That's the ideal for me. I've seen it online before. It's beautifully detailed, and perfectly proportioned. I'd love to see a video of Julia Morgans work. Thanks Ken

2 minutes ish the dining room is a bright yellow. I have a picture of it I cut out a magazine decades ago. The hanging panels on the walls have a rich deep red background. It's a beautiful room. My favourite though is the library which I hadn't seen before. Thanks Ken.

The staircase looks like a stage setting for an opera. What a place to live.

Demolished paradise and put up a parking lot.

Don't usually like this style, but I love this house. Favourite - the stairs. This house is one of the few featured on this channel that I would live in, if I had the choice. Wouldn't wear a tuxedo though. 😊

Love the house shown at 35 seconds ish.

Mmmmm. Kebabs.

Love it. It makes me smile. Live there? Probably not.

Tiny house? No. I much prefer seperate rooms to open plan. Don't want to look at the kitchen sink all day. What would be the ideal? Large high ceiling living room. Large high ceiling bedroom. Compact out of sight kitchen. Compact bathroom. What was referred to as a box room in the victorian era, a place to store everything, including hundreds of books. In the middle of 50 acres.

Full size organ? Sold!

Another remarkable survival. Favourites were the breakfast room, the Louis xvi round room and all the bedrooms that were shown. Of the larger rooms the library. Always the library. The other grand spaces were well suited to having a few hundred "friends" over to show off your dust collectors. A truly great film location for sure.

The dining room. Beautiful and perfectly proportioned.

Love the columned entrance facade. Beautiful.

As much as I love a limestone city palace, 'Weekend' was my favorite by far.

Just looked up what's for sale now in Tuxedo Park. Number 74 Tower Hill Loop. Take a look. I love it. Big dining room, small kitchen. Perfect. Make a toasted cheese sandwich, and eat it in the grand dining room. Such a beautiful outlook from the house. Near to heaven. Edit:. I just noticed the property tax amount, more that $4000 a month. !!!!!!!!! Say what? Wow. Expensive to live in the land of the free.

The library. I'd move a bed in there, and never leave.

Most interesting. Born in Tas, living in sMelbourne, 6:07, but I'm still in Vandieland? Vandieland, Van Diemens Land, what tha???

This house was for sale last year, but I don't know what, if anything, was retained from the original house. I like the entrance hall. Love a Corinthian column. Other than that, I like the house next door, which appears to be intact. Interesting facade, unusually high window to wall ratio for a city house.

Thank you.

Got it. No witnesses. I'm joking. Sound advice you give. Walking away is best. Even if there's no consequence for engaging, it takes you down psychologically.

Both magnificent and both still standing! I choose the second one I think. The first one really needs to be at the centre of a huge garden.
