  47. I have had three SLKs. A 230 r170, a 350 r171 and now a SLK55 r171. I have loved them all. Unfortunately, although I have always treated all the seals, all three have had water ingress in the boot which I can live with, with the help of strategically placed microfibre cloths! The r171 gearbox unfortunately is not designed to cope with inner city speed restrictions and tends to change down too frequently but on the open road, the car comes into its own. I love the v8 growl and the acceleration is phenomenal. You just don't see many slk55s on the road which makes you feel a bit special and it is a love affair for me. I love my SLK 55!!!

  65. Every car has its gremlins, but I love my r171 SLK 350. Had an r170 230 before this, which I also loved but rust problems forced me to sell it. This one had an irritating rattle which turned out to be the boot lid. A few adjustments and it's fine now. The suspension is a little hard for Bristol's terrible roads but it's ok on the A roads and motorway. Plenty fast for me, as I don't want to race the boy racers around here, ( although I could leave most of them standing!) and it's nice to know that it has the acceleration to overtake when I need to. I love the styling, love all the extras, and I just love driving with the roof down. This is my last car and I shall enjoy every minute that I spend in it.

I was shocked at the decision and I feel that there needs to be a complete overhaul of the judging system. Hell, most judges have never even boxed FFS. Bivol won and was robbed.

  140. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the interior of the R171 slk. Yes, there is plastic (What car doesn't have plastic) but it is stylish and doesn't look cheap and nasty. I don't like the all-black interior that lots of silks have but mine is beige and black and I really like it. This car holds its own against most modern cars for style and performance, it is a very aesthetically pleasing car. It has a hard sports suspension so yes it doesn't ride bumps or rough roads that well but that is just how it is. I love mine to bits.

You either love or hate SLKs, I love them, and once you fall in love you want the best, the most powerful and that is why I must have a 55. They are overpriced, and they are costly to run but if you can afford one, get the 55 because if you don't you will be craving one. The 350 is a great car however and if you are doing lots of miles to work or whatever you may find that the fuel costs are too high with the 55. I am an older guy, I work part-time and it takes me ten minutes to get to work. I won't be piling on the mileage and so I'm not concerned with the fuel costs. If you do get a 55 get a 2005 or earlier because the road tax doubles after that. Follow your gut mate, I always do. My advice is to join an SLK forum online. good luck!
