@DeathDealer_1021 Wrong & completely wrong. The plates were Pewter ( alloy of lead & tin which is stable & doesn't lead to lead poisoning unless in contact with an acid). "Mad as a hatter" comes from them using mercury on felt hats.

Given the the average wage in the 1960's was £20-25 gross a week, most people would not have a Fiver in their wallet or purse thus the sum is erroneous as that would have been 2 major purchases in one transaction ( not a common transaction)
