You could say the stick grenade was more photogenic 😁 I had an "Action Man" doll as a kid and the German uniform came with a potato masher: easier to fit in the hand grip and less likely to be lost.

In English there is a saying "How long is a piece of string?" It depends on the criteria and situations differ. When I was young it was how good Rommel was in North Africa and it wasn't until Mongomery arrived that Britain had a good general to fight & beat him (no mention of the RAF support). Come forward to more recent years and it comes out about Enigma decrypts & how the British were able to attack the Afrika Korp's supply convoys that of course allowed the 8th Army et al to gain the advantage. Very interesting discussion. Thanks 👍

RUSI is pretty good at analysis & Jack Watling often pops up on the radio(BBC) to give his thought about military matters. Thanks for the video, very interesting. No getting away from the eye in the sky.

British repeat the mistake of the Germans at Stalingrad by bombing the monastery. British did not learn from this mistake & repeated it at Caen ☹ So much for the soft under-belly of Europe.

I doubt it as hardliners were in charge both in the USSR & DDR. The change under Gorbachev was short lived and Putin stopped all reforms and returned to the Cold War narrative.

Very interesting, I was unaware that these existed. I thought Hummel were ceramic figurines

@Bullet-Tooth-Tony- I should have made it clear that it was a myth that Montgomery was the best & only general to beat Rommel

With the war in Ukraine it seems the Russian have lost a lots of armoured vehicles already, from tanks to APC. Whether it is poor usage by the Russians or better tactics and anti-tank weapons of the Ukrainians time will tell.

Thanks for an interesting video. I wasn't aware that SPGs were that common in WW2. I'm not sure if the British had them & they don't seem to appear in war movies.

This variety of effectively the same vehicle could be an exercise in reinventing the wheel. It just made life so much more difficult to source spares and to repair vehicles.

Use as a training vehicle and second line support is surely better than not having them it would also reduce the demand for ammunition.

Interesting to see how it developed & what a contrast to the British PIAT

@jrd33 It seems a bit Heath-Robinson being spring loaded and needing a fair bit of strength to cock it. The other problem was the small warhead needed you to get suicidally close for it to be effective.
1
@jrd33 That maybe so but the charge was small and it had a tendency to either bounce off or skip from the tank armour. The PIAT was very heavy about 70lbs. Compare to the Bazooka & Panzerfaust it was the worst performer

Good anti-tank gun but a PITA to use effectively.

@stevepirie8130 I did not know that. Thanks for the info

With the possibility of 5 shells on target at once not so much the shout of "incoming!" more "hello Saint Peter"

Dieppe Raid very poorly planned & executed = fiasco. Its not as if the UK is lacking in shingle beaches to have tested the tank upon. As usual the Brits had a persistent habit of putting weak guns on their tanks. Interesting video 👍

TLDR, too heavy & underpowered. Look good on paper but is a white elephant.

@zanzan2738 Or just being a Russian troll

@SirAntoniousBlock Heard of it but never played it.
