Classic errors making a difficult task impossible. You plan the route in better weather so you know where you are going. The sledges were obviously too big: again training to use them, you want lighter loads to cross mountains. The biggest mistake was not turning back when the sleds got stuck, pressing on was pure stupidity.

First story is just a catalogue of errors & taking an inexperienced diver well beyond their capabilities. You don't dive in water below 5C/41F in a wetsuit unless you want to risk hypothermia. Being lean not only means less buoyancy but less fat to insulate you. Being cold means you will burn through your gas quicker which means the breathing cold air/nitrox will cool the body quicker.

@ScaryInteresting Small doesn't mean dangerous. People are still dying on mountains in the UK, especially in Winter.

You don't enter a wreck without a line & why did his Dad just swim off & leave him? Great buddy, great parent, not.

@diqweed69 Wrong! Greeks coined the term before the Roman empire to refer to foreigner who didn't speak Greeks thus considering their speech to be like sheep bleating, baa-baa. The word “barbarian” has its roots in the ancient Greek civilization of Mycenaean Greece, dating back around 3,200 years.

@Quincy_Morris That was Landells not Burke

Last story: lack of preparation, underestimating the power of water plus NO rope.

Not an air gauge it is a pressure gauge! The amount of gas you breath from the tank varies with depth.

Another catalogue of errors story. For captains of ships not to know their position or to accurately judge distances is bad. To not know how difficult it is to traverse distances across broken ice is worse i.e. if you can walk 4 miles in 1 hour on land you would be lucky to do 1 mile an hour in poor conditions. No adequate watch kept on the Newfoundland & a casual disregard for the safety of the men ordered off the Stephano by the captain who should have been held to a better account.

@htopherollem649 No, it is called recycling. It is heat treated to kill any parasites & pathogens. Don't you know they also use cow & pig manure to fertilise fields, especially with high oil & gas prices driving up the cost of chemical fertilisers.

@edinsoncavanirespector Wrong, slavery was going on in West Africa while he was in power.

Never heard of this before. Penny-pinching mine owners still using candles when the use of Davy lamps was widespread in coal mines. There had been previous fires at the mine, so safety was lax. One of the owners, Henry Noble, became the richest man on the island then donated his fortune to philanthropic causes to enhance his reputation & continue a legacy.

It wasn't an accident! He ignored the plan & put them both at risk due to recklessness. The fact that he panicked showed that he was diving beyond his capabilities & that is why he killed himself.

@Akhimed he's wrong

In Welsh a single F is pronounced V (FF is F), so it it is said Abervan. Pure negligence & families waited years to get compensation. A public fund raised an awful lot of money for the time but it took years to distribute. Not sure why you called them students, they were schoolchildren aged 7-11 as it was Pantglas Junior School.

Fool & pedant.

FFS! Stop making videos about the UK. You butcher names by constantly mispronouncing them & you are too lazy to look up the correct way to say words.

So many of these stories where bosses put profit before safety. Basically back then it was agriculture & out in all weathers or the more dangerous fishing. Jobs were limited to how far you could walk to & from.

The Davy Lamp was for coal mines. Candles were cheaper for the owners

The pronunciation of Esau varies across different English dialects and sources. The most common modern English pronunciation is “ee-saw”.

Not See-drick it is said Sed-rick

It is known as the Burke & Wills expedition, WTF do you have to keep using first names as if you are describing a group of friends! Back then only family members or intimate friends would be allowed to use a Christian name, so using Robert & Charley etc just makes it confusing. Poor video & too short to do the subject justice.

Car did not have 4 way flashers in the 1940's.
