Afghanistan is a tribal society & Iraq less so. In Iraq Saddam imposed peace to prevent sectarianism which of course violently broke out after the invasion. Pakistan supported the Taliban as it didn't want a stable & prosperous country on its border giving the "wrong idea" to its own citizens. Likewise Iran wanted an unstable Iraq plus the Turks hated the Kurds & has fought to stop them developing a functioning independent government in northern Iraq invading with punitive raids & going against US policy.. It was largely the Kurds that defeated ISIS.

Why does Patel keep grinning and asking foolish questions. The oil embargo was put in place to punish Japan for attaching China. To keep selling oil to the belligerent was to effectively support the war & agree that what the Japanese were doing was OK. The whole greater East Asia co-prosperity sphere plan was in place before the embargo as they knew the Europeans couldn't defend their colonies.

US foreign policy post WW2has been a mess that has caused more problems than it has solved. Building up the military in Pakistan has led to dictatorships. The US turned a blind eye to Saudi Arabia funding the madrasas that has led to the rise of Islamic fundamentalism in the region. Supporting the Mujahedin to stick it to the USSR after the Afghan invasion cause terrorism & ultimately 9/11. Poverty remains a problem for both India & Pakistan due to their over-investment in their military. The USSR was never an economic threat but Nixon opening China has resulted in its rapid growth, economically, politically and strategically. The world then became dependent on China for cheap manufactured good, none more so than the USA. They took a paper tiger & made it into a geopolitical threat.

The questioner was wrong because Japan never confronted its war crime like Germany & still censors school history books to play the victim. Japan's economy was kick-started by the Korean war. Both Iraq & Afghanistan are tribal societies. In the former their is a lot of sectarian violence. The later was deliberately undermined by Pakistan (especially the military) supporting the Taliban plus the USA broke so many promises to build a better society & imposed a corrupt & ineffective president on the country plus it brought its stupid "war on drugs" policy into the country without any understanding of why the opium poppy was grown. It could have purchased the crop, diverted what was need to the pharma companies to make morphine & destroyed the surplus resulting in a cheaper & more successful outcome for farmers also preventing the illegal drug trade.

@thalmoragent9344 They did, they moved the Pacific fleet to Pearl Harbor and fortified Midway plus the Aleutian bases. Industry was already geared up supplying ammunition etc to the UK. Don't think tank, aircraft & navy ships were only starting being built in December 1942

WW1 helped destroy the class system in UK, it lead to women's suffrage plus women who worked during the war & got good wages were never going back to poorly paid domestic service in grand houses in the big cities or the country mansions. Canada, South Africa, Australia & NZ all demanded more control of their own affairs plus the movement for Indian independence gathered pace.

China would be so stupid to try and take Taiwan: it will kill the semiconductor industry for at least a decade. That will cause all kinds of widespread problems as nothing can be built, repaired or upgraded because "chips" are in almost everything these days.
