@I_am_Raziel Only if your house doesn't burn down or the PC is stolen

Thanks for the video with clear steps for what to do.

Clear & concise :) Win 11 crashing too much, so getting closer to moving to Linux. Do I go with Mint or Ubuntu 🤔
5
Good to see this went well; 7 or 8 out of 10. I don't need to use Linux for these kinds of projects but good to see that you can do more & more in Linux with every passing year.

The reports of the death of HDD have been exaggerated for years. Back in the '90's I told my older brother I had bought a new PC with a 1.2GB HDD. His response was "you'll never be able to fill it up!" 🤣

Thanks Chris 😃 If ever Windows becomes too expensive to buy a license or if Windows 12 changes to a subscription model like Office 365 then I will definitely switch to Linux Mint. I do keep a copy on a USB drive as an emergency boot option in case of a major problem in Windows.

Certainly with HDD in the TB's compression is not as necessary as once was. I would say compression is more useful when emailing files although they can be labelled as malicious by some email &/or AV programs, however a password can protect the data from others except the intended recipient. Been using 7zip for 15 years or more since WinRAR/WinZip became a paid program.

Been a while since I tried Linux. This one looks good & I would prefer to do the basics without resort to Terminal. Thanks for sharing the info about Vanilla OS

Zip/Jazz drives turned out to be an expensive dead end. I think I still have some disks but no way of reading them - who these days still have an ide or parallel port to connect to? Have about 150-200 CD/DVD discs but a lot were written at 12-16x speed ( have checked them in over 5 years; I wonder how many are now coasters🤔

Thanks. For over 4 years I have wanted to replace my Coolermaster HAF X case as the dust filters are meh & the one below the PSU can only we cleaned if the PSU is removed. I have 4 HDD & a DVD writer. Most new(er) cases don't have an optical bay & only have space for 2 x HDD with 2.5" SSD seemingly redundant as NVME drives are so much faster & not much more in price plus often only have 2 front USB ports.

Many congratulations, Chris! Well deserved & 15 years or so in the making. I wasn't an early sub by any means but happy to have helped you get the award.

Very interesting and a lot different to Ubuntu Dapper Drake where I started.

very useful & clear video. Thank you

With all the flavours the only answer must be to suck it & see 😀

Nothing wrong with my existing storage except I now have multiple drives of different sizes from 2 x 1 TB WD Black in RAID 1 to 3 & 4 TB internal HDD plus externals from 2 TB to 6TB. I need to simplify my setup 😦

Interesting although a few niggles. Please do a comparison video as it would be good to see is the ARM system will win or how much of a gap it will be the loser.
2
Will share this with my brother whose PC is 12+ years old & still doesn't want to buy a new one.

Too many years ago to remember, I got my first taste of Ubuntu running it in a VMware virtual machine as it would run Folding@Home more efficiently & quickly than Windows 7. A lot more use of the command prompt then but the forums were helpful in showing what to do. I will try to use Virtual Box to explore Linux before the end of the year. I wasn't aware that Python was needed.
2
Very interesting! I wonder if these will be used in all the EVs that are going to move us around when the combustions engine sales diminish.
2
I will share this as my brother needs an upgrade for Win 11. Currently he has a very old Intel 4 core with only 6GB of RAM + a nvidia GTX 260. Will need a better mobo as he has more than 4 Sata drives. Then a better case & new PSU as they are both 12+ years old.
2
Does it make any difference if it is USB 2 or 3 thumb drive?

First time seeing what AI generated images are. Very interesting video. Early days as to whether this will be a good, bad or indifferent tool and will "big tech" crush the kittle players in the market yet again.

Amazing what can be done on something so small. If only I knew what to do with one 😮

@keithmiller9665 showing as unavailable & not known when back in stock on the river store.

Very interesting. I will have to give this a try via USB before too long.

MS should remove the bloat programs like News & Xbox, allow Defender to be removed completely from the system or option to install it during Windows setup. The mail app is still clunky & there is now an Outlook lite replacement but this currently on lets you use a @outlook email address - this needs more functionality as standard. Can we stop with the endless reboots after updates! I'm not 12 & I don't need the "Malicious Software Tool" to run every month as I have a good AVAM installed. I'm still on 10 as 11 still seems to have too many bits that are Beta versions

Dual drive dual boot is the way to go if you want Linux as well as Windows.

My 2 year old Asus motherboard has an 8 pin and a 4 pin socket beside it. The additional 4 pin is needed for overclocking &/or if a 2nd high power graphics card is installed. I think the only reason for a fully modular PSU is if you want to use braided/coloured cables from a 3rd party supplier.

Thanks for the thorough explanation. I was going to buy a WD M2 Blue back in the summer, now the price has gone up £20 for the 2TB model. Maybe Chris you could help me by doing a video about SE (secure erase of SSd's)? I have a Samsung NVME but Magician says it is not a supported drive ( it is C drive) but even if I create the USB drive to perform SE it will not work. I also have a Crucial 500GB sata SSD (storage but old Widows that I want to remove) I have tried Parted Magic but that fails to recognise drives ( maybe too many are connected? I just need 1 connected that I want to SE?)

Thanks for the video. 2024 I am going to try Linux Mint again & use it regularly if only on a virtual machine but maybe with a goal of having a dual boot system by the end of the year, The upgrade to Win 11 has had a few problems: crashes, freezes, BSOD, after a very stable Win 10. I fear I will have to do a clean install of Windows.

Here's to the next 500 videos! Seems there is always something new to learn with computers & I was ignorant about RGB shirts 😮

One way or another MS will either force people onto 11 or make you pay to stay on 10 either with $$$ &/or withdrawing features from 10

Nice clear explaimation. I did try Clozilla many years ago & didn't find it user friendly but the new version seems better. I have used the Samsung data migration tool version 2 or 3 & it worked without a problem as it appears to be "idiot proof"
