  6. The whole crisis in social & affordable housing has been cause by the "Right to buy" where voters were bribed to vote Tory with large discounts. Many tenants then sold their ex-council house for a profit & moved out the area. This reduced the social housing stock, created a property bubble & many of these houses were then bought by "buy to let" private landlords charging market/unregulated rents. With higher private rents the housing benefit budget ballooned yet still does not cover 100% or rents in most of the country. This is the worst outcome for both renters and those who want to get on the property ladder. Because of Thatcher & her followers a house went from being a home to an investment &/or a pension pot, yet for many it is a way to pay for the care home they need in old age.

  8. When I could afford it I was a member of Dignity in Dying. The opponents of assisted dying always ignore safeguards & bring up: religion, the Agatha Christie excuse that people are killed so they can get an inheritance, or we need good palliative care (When the NHS is so short of resources that it can't provide treatment for many conditions including good mental health}. When desperate they say doctors won't perform euthanasia because if breaks the Hippocratic oath or they will want to become a Shipman. My niece could only get a hospice place for the last 2 weeks of her life dying of breast cancer. Before that her partner had had to give up work to care for her at home as she vomited due to the drugs & became double incontinent. When all is said & done it is MY life, I'm not owned by the state & if I want to chose dying with dignity then no one has a right to stop me.

  23. The problem remains will a Labour government repeal/abolish these new Tory rules or say we have more important things to do. Given their past record I'm not hopeful that they will not leave Tory regulations in place if they see an advantage for themselves as well while finger-pointing & saying we never supported this.

  24. Prison reform as well as the criminal justice system is desperately needed! We lock up far too many people. Prison should be for violent/dangerous criminals & recidivists, not for TV license evaders, council tax debtors, shoplifters and "white-collar crime" (fine them & take the money back back from their assets). Labour should be reducing the prison population by 1k+ a year not building more prisons.

  27. Reeves does NOT know what she is doing. She is dyed in the wool of economic orthodoxy of the failed neo-liberal policies of the last 40 odd years that is why she still wants to use PFI. It wasn't necessary to take away the Winter Fuel allowance from all not on Pension Credit ( which you have to be piss poor to get). She could have started from removing it from higher rate taxpayers, she could've halved it, extended the reach of the "warm home discount" raised the qualifying limit for Pension Credit as UK pensioners are some of the poorest in Europe. Imposing Austerity 2.0 while blaming the Tories yet claiming she is going to grow the economy show she is not fit to be Chancellor.

  31.  @christinemp7154  Have you had to fill in the Pension Credit form? It is long an complicated & you have to provide proof of ID (passport or driver's license), proof of address plus all your financial info i.e. even a savings account with £5 in it.

  34. Last time I was unemployed I had to provide proof that I was searching 2 hours every day and applying for at least 30 jobs per fortnight. I was sanctioned 3 times & luckily I won the appeal each time but had no money all the time I was sanctioned (It was backdated but I still had to borrow & use meagre savings to live). They also accused me of falsely claiming for free dental treatment ( just a check up)t & hit me with a £120 fine, which took over a month to successfully appeal with the help of the Job Centre. Unemployment Benefit is NOT free money every worker pays taxes & NI to cover the cost.

  50. Last I heard we are dependent on the USA to provide targeting info i.e. satellite data. It is a misnomer to say we have an independent nuclear deterrent as we can't use it without their agreement. Plus if we were able to then the UK would be annihilated by a response
