Some years ago a school in a city I lived in had a program running where the kids that were reaching the age where they could get a Permit to Learn were shown graphic accident footage and interviews with families of young people killed due to speeding and other dangerous acts. They also watched interviews with kids that survived crashes. The kids in wheelchairs or with brain injuries. The program affected my daughter deeply and as a result is a very aware driver.

  4. Should I assume this is a case of inexperience? Possibly using his brakes more than his gears to control his speed? You can't rely on brakes to keep a fully loaded body truck under control down a hill. Choose a lower gear, and use your brakes intermittently so they don't get a chance to overheat. It's one of those things you learn from experience, and those situations are referred to over here as '...a trap for young players...'.

  15. I loathe the concept of HOAs. The ficus he's attached to is a very fast-growing 'weed' tree. 'Weed' tree meaning they will colonise damaged land, or in their native habitats, clearing caused by fallen trees. Once establiched, they expand their root system and create a dense shade cover that inhibits growth below them. I lived in a home with half a dozen of these planted close to the house. I hard pruned them back to stop leaf litter in the gutters. 18 months later they had grown back with an even thicker canopy. I love them, and I'd suggest he get more seedlings and plant them amongst the pretty hedges that the HOA shitbags love. Also, plant some more just above where they (probably) will remove this tree from. Find some fast-growing, invasive vines and plant heaps of them around. Personally, I feel HOAs should be illegal. W have similar organisations here in Australia that generally operate in apartment blocks or gated communities. That's fair to an extent to ensure people don't turn their yards into junkyards or balconies into laundry displays. However, to attempt to impose those controls on a neighbourhood, without following proper council procedures, as in operating as a dictatorship over an area, is wrong on so many levels. I've heard of HOAs demanding a resident change the colour of their car because it was detracting from the feel of the neighbourhood. Insanity.

  17. You have to pay attention when you're behind the wheel of a vehicle. It only takes a split second of distraction for something like this to happen. It's not an accident. It's a crash that had a cause.

  23.  @randygravel2057  The problem with your philosophy is that the vast majority of the rich have never, nor ever will be accounted for their actions. They'll continue to get rich off the poor peoples' backs and through illegal actions then blame the poor for the state of 'society'. People become indoctrinated into the thought that 'If you work hard enough, you too can be like me' and we all know that is utter rubbish. That philosophy then leads to people like you blaming someone who was so desperate to clothe her child that she climbed into a donation bin and got stuck. Discrimination by class is what is wrong with society, as is blaming everyone for their own misfortune.
