  1. I shared this video. It's very enlightening. Back in the 80s or 90s, the then government tried to introduce a national ID card. It was met with mass protests. So they shelved that plan and changed laws to ensure our tax file number became our de facto national ID number. You didn't have to give your TFN to an employer, but if you didn't, your employer had to tax your pay at 45%. Anonymity in the 2000s is nigh on impossible, even if you go off-grid and 'grey'.
