  1. This was a great little history lesson. I lived in the Rockhampton area for many years and I remember early in my time there, my mother telling me how Mt Morgan was an important town when she was going to school in Brisbane. At one time it was the largest producer of Gold in the world and had the deepest open-cut pit at about a mile deep. Mt Morgan faded away but Mt Isa is still going strong today. This film impressed me because of that particular scene where the discoverer of the deposit was watching the miners heading to work. I'd bet very few of those blokes walking past knew who he was, and how important a man he was in their collective lives.

  2. I'm only a few minutes in and I can see that Cairns didn't change much between the 60s and the early 80s when I first got there. It's a much more spread-out city now, but still retains some of its early charm.

  5. I recall a similar film from the 60s and I remember the song. It was to the tune of 'Where Have All The Flowers Gone' but the lyrics go: 'Where Have All The Drivers Gone?'

  6. I remember the Tea & Sugar train. My early years were spent following my dad who was a driller. Mum, my big sister, and I traveled in an FX Holden towing an 18 foot Franklin caravan, following the drill rig to jobs. We often lived in the middle of nowhere while dad was drilling water bores, or doing core tests in remote parts of South Australia, outback Queensland, and even the Whitsunday Islands. We moved to Perth in the early 70s, and the Tea & Sugar was part of our geography and history lesson. It was still running back then.
