  3. WOW! I clearly remember reading about this in a newspaper in Australia the day after it happened. It was also on the news. I once went looking for information about this disaster on the web but came up with nothing. I put it down to being pre-mobile phones and internet as we know it. Thank you for posting this.

  9. A lot of comments are discussing the problem of keeping wild animals in a domestic environment and blame a lack of 'nature' as the cause of this chimp's sudden change in nature. Perhaps it is more correct to suggest that the chimp had reached late teens/adulthood and as within the wild, this animal was attempting to assert its dominance and protective instincts over the rest of its family. The animal was (in my undereducated opinion) asserting dominance over its territory.

  10. There was a Solar Storm/CME event in 1989 that disrupted communication and power in Canada in particular. It occurred between the 9th and 13th of March.

  11. In 1987 in Cairns, Queensland Australia, there was a bleve in the rail yards close to the city. One man in a boarding house was killed and 27 others were injured. Nothing like, but significant for what was not a big town at the time.

  12. A truly unique aircraft in its day. But also an example of decadence. I mean, yes, the food and drink was lovely, but every passenger was sitting in what could only be described as economy seating. But if you flew Concorde, you had done something few others had and paid big money for the privilege. A very expensive rich person's ego massage.
