  3. Many, many years ago (the 1970s) my father came up with an idea to get cats out of our yard. He bought a rat trap, drove a nail from the bottom of the trap through the board so that about 2cm poked out the top. The idea was that when the cat went to eat the bait the trap would hit it on the nose, sending its jaw down onto the nail, piercing the cat's underjaw. It worked. He lost the cat trap. I'm assuming the cat went home and the cat owners got a gift of a rat trap from their cat. Our cat problem stopped.

  4. Many moons ago I had an old 35mm SLR camera. I found a set of extensions for the lens that gave me really excellent macros. In around 2008, I worked out a way to attach a reversed lens to my standard lens on my old Minolta DSLR and get extreme close-ups. The field of view and the depth of field were seriously shallow, and I needed really good lighting. but I managed to capture a pincer and the eye of a centipede in one frame. This video has had me outside now with my Nikon P1000, playing with its pretty good macro capabilities.
