My opinion, purely because of where I live (Australia) is that batoning is pointless. Our timber is in the main very brittle and very hard. For most of our timber, we can take a long branch of thinnish timber and snap it across a rock or over another log to break it into measured lengths. Most of our forest country is covered in leaf and bark litter, so kindling is no issue. Granted though, in the wet, batoning may be a good option. (EDIT) Most of our trees, eucalypts predominantly, drop branches. So we get a wide variety of timber thicknesses just laying on the ground. (EDIT2): I do enjoy your videos Lilly.

I like the way you have decided 'fuck the haters' and have tested this knife to its limits.

Thanks again Lilly. I see the BG Gerber is serving you well. Thankfully in Australia (at least where I live) we don't have to worry too much about toxins, except of course the Cone Shell snails and Stone fish and Blue Ringed Octopus, and Irukandji & Box Jellyfish...Okay, yes, we do have to worry about toxins LOL.

Sorry for the multiple comments. I just got to the lanyard part. I have an adjustable lanyard on my machete and my larger knives. I have them wrapped around my hand in such a way that if when I'm chopping I lose the handle from my grip, it doesn't don't swing towards my leg. I would never have the lanyard around my hand if I was walking with the knife/saw. As for using a lanyard to hang a knife/saw off a pack; no. Your blades need to be secure. They're your most important tool. In respect to 'closed' lanyards, I have a knotted lanard and an adjustable lanyard on my big chopper. That way I can secure the knife to my hand and also use the knotted lanyard as a pseudo handle exrtension when chopping.

I'm really glad you made this video. Once upon a time, we used to say, "Don't feed the trolls". But nowadays trolling has stooped to much lower levels than the past. I enjoy your work Lilly. Thank you.

@wulf76 You ever heard of washing your hands? It's a contact virus. It is NOT an airborne virus FFS! If people, in the majority practised basic hand hygiene, this virus wouldn't spread. In fact, most viruses wouldn't spread because the majority of them are only contact transmissible.

I am impressed that you have bucked the trend of bagging the Bear Grylls Gerber. It is a very capable knife. EDIT: But now, after watching 5 minutes in, it appears to have already lost a decent edge. If so, it wouldn't last 5 minutes on the hardwoods we have here in Australia. Have you reviewed the knife? I seem to recall watching one...

I really enjoyed this. I really like your knife design too. Very practical and strong.

I see lots of arguments about Bear Grylls and other 'survivalists'. the only true bushman on the planet is Russell Coight. Check out the legend here: https://youtu.be/YGEYD92eA_s

Did you hear that DBK? I hope you did :)

Reminds me of where I used to live...

Growing your own food is something anyone with a garden should do. It doesn't matter how small your crop is. Just do it. Learn how to grow food. Every human needs to know that skill. It's what makes us human.

2:30. I'd advise pulling the sick tomato out and removing it from the growing are, just in case it is a contagious disease or fungal issue.

Just curious, what's that knife you're using? ;o) <-wink

I haven't seen 'Naked and Afraid', nor have I watched any of your previous videos covering this adventure, even though I'm a long time subber. This was very enlightening and educational, and now I need to find the episode and watch it.

I guess the larger diameter bamboo, the potentially larger crab.

11:00 Snake has a chicken texture of sorts due to the stringiness of the muscle. They (for me) have a neutral flavour, like crocodile, or eel from a clean water source.

Good to see one of your videos early.

I've only ever had a passing interest in using a bow. I have played around a bit though. This was a great education, Lilly. Thank you.

Is this a flashback video Lilly? EDIT: Of course it is. It's that shitty overpriced F1 you're using that gave it away LOL.

Ti-pee is looking very flash, Lilly.

I'd be wary of having exposed Pepper spray and a folding knife in those side pockets. They could be taken/stolen from behind. Nice pack though :).

That has held up very well over 5 years. As you said, with a little maintenance it will last another 5 years easy.

+steppenwolf (I like your music ...) True. We can baton, but only with the soft-woods. Although I've never batoned over here. The timber in the main is pretty brittle and snaps easily, plus there's a heap of kindling/firestarter available on the ground. Our leaf litter is so full of volatile eucalypt oils that given a decent start, it'll burn when wet/damp.

V cool.

Does a sarong and a single-bed sheet count as naked and afraid? Been there...

You may not see this, but stainless handle screws would be a much better choice. You know what I like about your design? That kick-arse tip. Shipping to Australia won't be a problem.
