  1. I used to swear by Slick-50. I used it in an air-cooled Kombi engine (with straight 50 weight oil)., as well as a 225 slant six. I had a rear ender one day and the bumper bar on the old Valiant split the radiator. I drove the car 10km (6 miles) home, replaced the radiator, oil, filters etc., then took it for a drive. No smoke, no damage at all to the engine. I can't say if engine additives work, but something protected that engine.
