  7. My father died from a Brown snake bite. He had stepped out of his 4WD and a brown was hiding under a small saltbush shrub right near where he stepped. It hit him twice in a split second. He said he barely felt the bite. Oh, it wasn't the snake that really killed him. It was the incompetence of the hospital he attended that caused him to suffer for 2 weeks before organ failure killed him. Long story for another time.

  11. The 'foreign' cars entering the Bathurst races disappointed me as a kid. I hated the idea that they were moving away from strictly production vehicles. I never really appreciated the Jags and Nissans etc. but begrudgingly realised they were better engineered than a lot of our locally produced vehicles.

  19. Back in the day we had a place in our city (they were popular around Oz) called the 'Pancake Manor'. My favourite meal was Californian Pancakes. Bacon, eggs, pancakes, maple syrup and a big dollop of whipped butter. Is that an American thing, or did I fall in love with a lie?

  20. I went to the first-ever Truck Grand Prix in Australia. It was held at the big Calder Park Thunderdome complex in 1988 (if memory serves correct), and I was lucky enough to get a VIP pass because a mate managed a fuel depot in the town I was living in. We drove five hours through the night to get there early. What an awesome day.

  23. If I'm correct, Porsche, Lamborghini, and Ferrari were all tractor manufacturers initially. Mahindra is the worlds largest manufacturer of tractors at the moment. They sell 4WDs now that are damned solid workhorses out of the box. Rear Eaton diff locker standard, full ladder chassis, Borg Warner gearbox and transfer case, and a 2.2 litre intercooled turbo diesel. All that and more for about 40K Australian.

  24. I've been spending some time trying to find a video of Dick Johnson's XB Falcon from 1977. The only stuff I found was a Scalextric car and another 1/12 scale model. Any XA-XC series videos are Moffat's or collector's videos. Frustrating. I did find some A9/X videos (my second favourite car behind the XA or XB). I won't post them here, but I'll work out a way to get the links to you. I have some stuff to send to you when I am rich enough to pay the postage. Take care you wonderful people.

  27. 7:15 Yes. At the very least, learn to explain that you know very little of the language of the countries you're visiting, in the language of the countries you are visiting. Keep a notebook with the words you need written down, and add more as you learn. Those tips come not from me, I don't even have a passport. They are things that a Korean traveler I met years ago used to learn more english.

  28. 1:50 I'm relatively old when it comes to Freddo Frogs. I still remember the original chocolate Freddos that looked like the Australian Rocket Frog, and you could eat the back legs first, and then the front legs, and then work your way up the body from either end. No fillings. Just chocolatey frog goodness. Then they changed the frog! They turned it into some bizarre cartoon character that was looking at you as you ate it! And then they gave it INTESTINES! In the form of caramel or raspberry or some other sick, intestine-looking colour. My chocolate frog became a gut-ooze-filled monstrosity that nightmares were borne from.

Further, I lived right on the edge of the Daintree World Heritage area, in rainforest. I've also spent quite some time around the Central and Northern NSW coast and yeah, it's pretty too. But it has nothing on the Daintree area, sorry.
