I was reawakened to how vast Australia is when I used to talk to friend in Brisbane when I live at Bloomfield in Far North Queensland. We'd be talking at about 6pm and down in Brisbane it was dark, yet the sun hadn't quite set up in Bloomfield. It was then I realised that even though Brisbane and Bloomfield are on the coast, Bloomfield is as Far West as Charleville and Quilpie are from Brisbane.

1:13 Just yesterday, as I was walking down the street, I watched a bloke in an Audi turn left off a main street, then left into a shopping centre car park that was on a bend, and at no time did the indicators flash. I so much wanted to ask him if Audi provided working indicators on a subscription plan...

10:55 In the 90s, friends and us would host university students or foreigners studying in Australia. One of the guys, when the semester finished, decided to ride from Rockhampton to Uluru. Have a look on Google maps how far it is. Thankfully, he was somewhat aware of the distances he'd have to travel. However, on the first day, he only made it to Duaringa, 100 km from Rockhampton. Still a good feat in my eyes if look at the terrain he covered. If memory serves me correctly, he actually made it in a few weeks.

@daveamies5031 Absolutely, Dave. Daylight Saving is a pointless exercise in Queensland, even as far south as Brisbane.

3:45 In Queensland, if you drive any sort of ute (pickup truck), especially a Hilux or BT-50 you are exempt from state road laws.

8:35 Australia, in particular, NSW has such a high density of poker machines that in some areas, there is 1 machine for every 18 people in the district. So, imagine a suburb of say, fifty thousand. That's about 3000 thousand poker machines. Now, extrapolate that across a population of about 5 to 8 million around Sydney...

@AndrewFishman Yep. Over the years I've hitch-hiked and driven between Brisbane and Cairns quite a few times. I've also done Rockhampton to Griffith, and Rocky to Milton (South of Sydney) a few times. We live in a big country. At the tender age of 12, in the 70s, I drove with my parents back from Perth to Brisbane. That was a journey. Three days all up because we had to repair the radiator on the Nullarbor after a kangaroo hit. That took about 8 hours out of the trip.

@AndrewFishman Ah, cool. My ex's father owned and ran the Post Office at Milton. One of his four daughters runs it now. It's a beautiful old building, dating from the 1800s.
