  1. That's a herring trail at Hook island. Or a blackweed trail. Edit: Or, it's a mass of fish caught in a drag net. The bloke on the boat is probably pulling the net with the fish balling at the close end.

  2. Frill necks are the BEST lizard! No, they don't spit venom hehehe. They will run on their hind legs at trippy speeds to get away. They will rise up on their back legs and tail and flate out that big frill to scare large potential predators. They will also try to lay flat against a tree trunk. As you approach, They'll move sideways around the trunk to try and stay out of site. They are way cool! The longest I've seen was nearly 2 metres long, 5 feet from nose to tail tip.

  4. The doomsday fish is believed to rise to the surface from deep oceans when there is a deep undersea earthquake. Hence, the belief that catching one is a harbinger to a doomsday event likre a mega tsunami. I think the Japanese coined the term for the fish.

  7. Irukanji are nasty little buggers. I know a bloke who grew up in Cooktown and has spear fishing and hand netted since he was a kid up there. When an irikanji hits him, all he does is get itchy. Like really itchy. But the itch goes away after a few hours. True story.
