I watched an interview with Sally Struthers discussing this interview. Struthers said that she'd been told that a high profile Australian journalist would visiting her place to interview her. She had no idea of who Norman Gunston was. Her reactions were all genuine, and her first thought when she answered the door was that Australian journalists mustn't be very sophisticated. She honestly thought the tissue paper (to soak up blood from razor nicks) was legit and that he'd forgotten to remove them before the interview.
