When I first left school and entered the workforce (here in Australia) in the 70s, it was normal to have a 20-minute 'smoko' (morning break) around 9 or 10am, depending on when you started work, and an hour for lunch, usually around 12 or 1pm. Nowadays I think that most workplaces have a 10-minute morning break and a half-hour lunch.
