Everything the government is resistant to is exactly what this country needs. From proportional representation to scrapping the house of lords to regulating rent and raising wages. If the government say it can't be done, it can and MUST be done.

A tory couldn't care less about the plights of others. Only their own pockets. They'll stack the bodies high if it puts a penny in their pocket.

@creativecascades1328 Rent is regulated by the council and so landlords can't pass their costs on to the public. The regulated rent is based on an areas realistic rates and based on amenities such as the energy rating of the boiler, the quality of the finish, furnished etc. So landlords are encouraged to raise the standards of their property so they can charge the rent they desire. If an apartment/house reaches above a certain standard then the landlord can charge what they like, but this applies mainly to "luxury" homes with air conditioning and under floor heating etc. Regulating rent forces landlords to invest in their property and dissuades greedy landlords that charge high rent in homes filled with mold and old energy inefficient appliances. So standards in the renting sector improve and individuals are less likely to buy all the property to rent so housing is also available for families to buy. The problem when someone has the opinion that regulating rent wont work is that it is already very successful and working as intended in other European countries. The only people that say it wont work are the landlords. And fools. So let's hope you're just a land lord that wants to continue to milk profits with minimum investment. If that is the case then if regulating rent forces you out of the renting market then that is a also another reason to regulate. Peace x

@creativecascades1328 This is exactly why rent must be regulated to stop land lords passing their investment costs onto the consumer. Then the only land lords are the ones willing to invest in their properties. Properties were given grants to insulate housing, so I'm not sure how you missed that one. Sounds like the property is in need of being dragged kicking and screaming into the modern era. Have you had families living in there?!

@creativecascades1328 You aren't a representation of ALL landlords though right? But it sounds like you should look into other lines of work if you find the tiny work load is too much for you to provide your tenants with the required insulation and energy efficient homes. Not to be mean spirited. It's just that I know a few land lords as friends and work for several more professionally. They know regulating rent is the right thing to do but they wouldn't vote for it. They know it would make living from their small portfolio difficult and they might have to start treating it like an actual business and invest in their properties and expand their portfolios to see the same profit under regulation. I also know a lot of home owners that have dabbled in renting their properties to local students as they can charge whatever they want regardless of the condition of the home. It makes finding a 3 bedroom home incredibly difficult in my area.

@JohnSmall314 If the house of lords was filled with a diverse selection of economic backgrounds then I might agree, but because they are all rich and all have invested interests in wages, renting laws etc etc then I don't understand how ANYBODY can see that as a necessary part of any democratic system. Gullible people existing doesn't make me support the house of lords The version of democracy they have in America is broken too. Trump would have been impeached if 2/3rds wasn't needed. I think it was 64% voted to impeach him. That's called a win in America. Proportional representation and no house of lords would redistribute some wealth and improve the lives of EVERYBODY. We might even start looking like an actual democracy then.

@JohnSmall314 Please don't write an essay. Try to make your point in 1 paragraph. Maybe 1 point at a time so it can be addressed. There too much to dissect there. You seem to be saying that because we have some gullible media controlled people in the UK we should be ruled by unelected lords.. Proportional representation is also needed to reform the house of commons as well. The fact that boris has inserted lords into the house on the condition they vote with the tories should tell you everything that is wrong with your logic.
