People are free to spend their money on what they like. If you make the topic of a movie about being gay, then that only interests a minority of movie goers as there's a minority of gay people. Same with trans topics. Or issues based on race. In the US, a vast majority of people don't care about these things. They just want to lose themselves in a story and to be entertained. It doesn't make anyone racist or homophobic or anti-trans. I'll support people's rights but I'm not interested in such movies. I'm also not interested in romantic comedies but that doesn't mean I don't like romance.

The Marvels was the worst grossing marvel movie. It was aimed at girls and was of zero interest to boys. Boys being the target audience for super hero movies, this financial flop was inevitable.

@bannjaxx YOU'VE put me in a little box! YOU have triggered yourself from a paragraph and now claim to know me intimately. Why do you have to be so toxic? What a moronic essay you spilled out of yourself. Do you struggle when people have different opinions to yourself. Are you a bigot? My mind is fully open thank you. Explain how, me not being gay and therefor have no interest in a gay movie (boys don't cry wasn't a bad movies tbf) have anything to do with trying different flavoured drinks. So dumb. I have watched rom-coms, that's how I know they're aren't for me.. Duh.. "Something about Mary" was great but I could reel off many more rom-coms that are garbage. Try to be more accepting of others that are different to yourself. Peace x

@biocapsule7311 So? None of that changes the facts. It flopped harder than ANY other marvel movie. It also had nothing to do with the main character being female. It was targeted at females. I am of course generalising massively. I'm not a complete buffoon. I can guarantee that the school yard banter as boys discuss the movies best bits and play out super hero roles, never included one of them saying, "YEAH!! And when they went to the planet where everyone could only communicate in song and it became a Bollywood movie for 5 minutes!! That was SICK!!!" It flopped for the obvious reasons I stated above..

@SundayMorning91 Totally agree. And you did have a movie made just for you. And I'm sure some boys watched it too, but the box office reflected the disparity between the number of girls and boys that are into the super hero genre. I am generalising in my OP. My son will tell you all about the characters and how the movies all link together etc, but my daughter has zero interest in that universe. I'd say that is typical but no the rule of course. I think it's great movies are made for everyone, I just hate it when a movies success reflects the target audience everyone that wasn't interested is called a bigot or blamed somehow. There are loads of movies I don't watch as I'm not interested in the topic.

@SundayMorning91 There is a darker under tone to this example. It's as if the company said, "How can we ostracise the main target audience and focus on people that have no interest in the franchise." But this isn't surprising as the same company have been quoted as saying they intend to phase out ALL white male main characters in the future. As this is apparently an acceptable way to act and run a business these days. This is unfortunately a trend at the moment and we won't get great story telling back until this blatant racism and misandry is confronted in the same way as all other racism is highlighted. Peace x
