the only thing that leaves a doubt in my mind is the poverty in Botswana. African rulers and their families are seldom innocent of the sufferings their fellow coubtrymen habe to endure.

riversonglovesthedr : that is a separate point. i m sure there were contemporary stories far more deserving of our admiration than this; i m told below that their son is still running (ruining) Botswana. honestly...wtf. and frankly if marrying into african royalty counts as brave, what does that say about the BBC view of ordinary Africans? there were many mixed marriages, going back AT least to the 19th century between working class englisch women and african men. didn they have more interesting stories to tell? lavish white guilt on more deserving targets at least, not some privileged so and so living it large in europe on the blood and sweat of poverty stricken fellow africans.

riversonglovesthedr : wouldnt disagree with what u said there at all. my original reservation is about the BBC (and many here) holding this up aß some kind of shining beacon. an ordinary english woman marrying into african royalty whose majority subjects lived/live in poverty while they indulged in europe does NOT deserve such unreserved send up. there were far more worthy examples from that time i am sure. esentially, if she married a working class african at the time, then fair enough. but really? Do u see the implied insult/downgrade of african royalty by the nice and progressive BBC here? how heroic is it really to marry someone with more wealth and status? lol. am playing devil's advocate here.

palesa kuku et. al. : Jesus. what s wrong with you guys? fine, you are not poor. that is beside my point, which is that they dont deserve the unreserved admiration because there were many working class mixed race couples facing far more adversities back then; further, how is a secretary marrying up into a wealthier and higher status african family, royalty no less, from, so I am told, a rich and happy country, brave and praise-worthy? Do they really deserve so much fuss? or are there too many people who just enjoy prostrating on the floor bathing in patronising condescension? (apologies for spelling errors etc.)

riversonglovesthedr : thanks. i guess you r right. anyway, bread and circus...all that the people want. lol

Katlego Nsakwa : everyone is making polite conversation here about the topic. your personal attack is rather unsightly. God bless.

@inutumaswabi8245 a separate and different point entirely.
1
@ravenknightvincent2722 that in in itself is indicative of a problem. Where s social Mobility? So many 'dmeocroacies' are controlled by a tiny tiny number of families.
1
@nonnidreams u r the racist one. The comments were about politics and social mobility. U brought race into it.

@hopeanozie5842 that i can agree. But Nigeria hardly sets a high standard, does it?

riversonglovesthedr : thanks for the Info. that s a little bit better. but still i know too well how 3rd world 'democracies' operate. my original concerns remain.
