modern science started in the least free, most barbarically religious and repressive place on earth, Europe. AT the time the Middle east and the far east were the paradise of peace freedom tolerance and indulgence.

Deren Bong : usual blame the victim mentality. if u had worn a long skirt u wouldn't have been raped. if u hadnt resisted u wouldn't have been hurt. etc.
3
kokofan50 : unfair s a loaded word and often relative. Were American indians being unfair wanting most of the continent to themselves and undeveloped? I don't think the Chinese were unfair. Don't buy the Tea/Silk/porcelain/ etc. If u think it s unfair. Make/fake/grow your own (lesser crime). Indeed europeans tried that first but couldnt compete (eventually euroepan owned Tea/Silk/porcelain production could; the war wasnt necessary economically speaking). So the Brits went for the 'creative' solution. So I wouldnt say that the Chinese were unfair. They exercised their rights not to Like/buy 'foreign' stuff. BUT they were being stupid.

Jason Smith : no one stands still...u r too focused on the present. If u Look at the change that took place over the last 70 years and at 15 year intervals roughly, u get a sense of where the trend is heading. America is still a long way ahead but it is hitting some kind of headwind (from pushing an ideology too far i think). China is highly motivated and doesn't believe in any ideology other than catching up. I think china is likely to get there and will be fine until then. Once it is secure and 'remerged' though it might find it hard to stay there unless it really becomes more open and free.

Is China so short of crisis that people habe to pick on its population as a talking point?

Turanian Heritage : lol. What a Red Guard in disguise. Words have no meaning to you. Self pleasing narrative ist everyhting.

Well, if this is the biggest crime that China is accused of....
1
Steven Wilson : Isnt China supposed to be the root of all the ills in the world today?
1
Mark Dweyr : people tend to react/act weirdly when they are told constantly that they have no right to exist...America (greatest country in history etc. Undoubtedly) tends to miss that point when it formulates its foreign policy stance. Depsite its good intentions, it often ends up creating self-fulfilling enemies and wars.
1
Henry1324 : only China could survive that kind of stupidity and folly from top to bottom, and live to tell the tale. They ve been conquered many many times throughout its history, technically speaking. But then in another sense, they have never been. It is quite unqiue.
1
Sanghamitra Ahirrao : psychological insecurity is a problem unfortunately.
1
Projection. War IS never their game. They been conquered many many times in history. Yet they r still here looming larger than ever. So their game s different. U got to figure it out. I havent.

Tim Ternstrom :. that kind of presumes that your respect is the most important thing and that your standard is universal. I think that's precisely where the dispute is. they don't agree with your presumptions
1
Tim Ternstrom :. depending on how random and if they r Chinese. also the experiment needs to neutralise a lot of other factors such as income disparity etc. don't forget China is a developing country. personally, no doubt in the West. but that s my choice and I don't extrapolate and I don't endow that choice with moral/political righteousness. i even agree with u if I were the Chinese governement. that s what I d do. but I m not presumptuous enough to say that that would be a better alternative (short or long term) to whatever path they ve been on now. all I m wary of is the danger of extrapolating present winner's philosophy into the future. history is a grave yard of paßt winners who had thought that they knew the 'secret'/'truth'.
1
Tim Ternstrom : I dont either. The only disagreement u and i have is really about the degree of certainty. After all these decades i m reluctant to continue to stand in the long line of naysayers, doomsayers, 'fire and brimstone preachers' of evangelical righteousness and certianty, etc. judging what China under ChiCom is doing. I m saying...fine...they r defying norms as well as negative predictions...maybe we are missing something...let s calm down, pause the lecturing and pre-determined conclusions, and simply observe for a while. IT s not as if we dont have enough problems to solve ourselves. I happen to be of the opinion that we are on a slow but steady road to oblivion thanks to our complacency and faith in the pseudo-liberal pseudo-capitalist deeply financialised economic/political orthodoxy.

More Like a Syria Moment for the West. Prepare for a Million more refugees and fake asylum seekers flooding the world. This time the real yellow peril...ironic or what, given that this 21st century sinophobic craze has the same root as its 19th century predecessor
1
Klaus Chen : what s your point?
1
loendsti : no one forced anyone to drink tea and buy fine china.
1
CaspianReport : 👍. But fat chance your plead would be heeded. Many losers need to post nasty comments for self- therapy. So see it as social work. :)
