While there is a strong case to be made for St. Nicholas (and by extension Santa Claus) being black historically, the reasons they give for introducing "Black Santa" for their app are really bad. Teaching kids that they can only relate to another person if they share the same skin tone, or that they should prefer one with their skin tone, is an awful idea. And I suspect if white people started changing the skin color of black figures in history, movies, comic books, etc. "so that white kids could more easily relate to them" they'd be rightfully called out for racism; but it's okay for a black person to suggest we fixate on skin color because...?
