@Jackal No, gender roles are a social construct, whereby we look at a person's gender (which is biologically determined) and say they should behave a certain way.

The incoherence of the whole trans/gender identity movement is astounding. How do you even know you're "really" the opposite gender from what your biological gender is? If you're biologically male but "really" a woman, what is your basis for comparison? For all you know, "feeling like a man" is the exact same as "feeling like a woman", apart from purely biological processes in the body.

@Heyoka86 Well they're wrong. Gender roles might be a social construct, but gender itself is biological. They'll even prove it to you themselves if you give them the chance; they usually bring in brain studies to try and establish that biological males are really females and vice versa. Of course, the problem with that is two-fold: 1. People with conditions we'd all agree are mental disorders also have physically different brains; indeed, that's sometimes how they're diagnosed. 2. What of those trans people who identify as the opposite gender and don't have brains to match? Would the same trans advocates using that argument proceed to tell them they're not really the gender they identify as? Surely not. So brain studies are irrelevant.

"But if gender was biological as you say, then why is it even a thing, why not just go by 'sex'?" Originally, "gender" just meant "type" and then only sometimes referred to sex. So we were using "sex" instead, but they were always interchangeable. This was probably at least partially because "sex" also refers to the act and so "gender" was safer to use. But it's only been a few decades that people have been trying to use "gender" to mean something different from biological sex. "Also, even if gender's biological that still doesn't mean we shouldn't strive towards a society so free that it allows us to change what we are, to transcend nature." Well so far, it's literally impossible to change your gender, even with surgery and hormone treatment. And for whatever reason, transgenderism itself comes with a drastic increase in suicidality, both with and without these attempts to alleviate "gender dysphoria" successfully. I suppose if we ever got to the point where all of these concerns were a thing of the past, then we could debate over whether we "should" opt to transition. But even then I don't see a point to it.
