in Australia, Adelaide and Newcastle are generally considered rustbelt. Newcastle was a steel city and Adelaide had several automobile plants and related factories that are all gone. Centralisation also happened which moved away anything that was relevant. Newcastle is reinventing itself. Adelaide never really recovered. Adelaide was labeled rustbelt in the early 1990s and even Billy Corgan when he visited a few years back said it reminded him of rustbelt towns in the US.
