  1. What you refee to as "general AI" will never come into being, no matter how much anybody tries. There is only way to create intelligence, and it requires a man and a woman 😉

  2. Key word being "appear." No matter whether a computer can fool people or not, it will never be intelligent or conscious or anything else. Full stop.

  3. I agree. I still think they are meaningless, just a substitute for things we cannot comprehend. They're used in formula to reach a solution, but it seems one starts with the conclusion they want and fill in nonsense to get there.

  5. Anybody who actually thinks there is legitimate "intelligence" in AI, is a fool. It would be like looking at a photo of the earth, and thinking that photo contains the actual earth. It's a poor 2 dimensional representation that contains nothing of what actually makes up the world.
