@CarryTheThree to a point, yes. But there are also things like the USDA and other consumer protections. And the government also breaks up monopolies. Google basically has a monopoly on the distribution of information, which is insanely powerful and dangerous. And being information as such, most people wouldn't even realize they're being fleeced or that they should look for alternatives. In addition, look what happened to Parler for example. Taken down by big tech, and the reasoning was entirely lies. There are other video sites as well, but when searched for, their results aren't shown, or Google promotes disingenuous hit-pieces written about them.
It's next to impossible at this stage for any alternatives to garner a meaningful share of the market.
The news stations used to have similar power, but they were expected to be held to a high standard and accountable for the info they spread. Of course we know now that news has been sensationalized and is always pushing some narrative or another.
Look, I'll be the first to agree that the less government intervention the better. But this is a pretty big issue, on a scale that's never been seen before.
