Europe would have been largely independent from oil and could've had electric cars in the 1990's if they focused on nuclear power, but activists in West Germany exported their anti-nuclear bias elsewhere and Europe's energy independence collapsed.

Fun fact: The early anti-nuclear energy movement was heavily financed by Big Oil and the Soviet Union (the world's largest exporter of natural gas at the time, particularly to West Germany). Oil would have been worth almost nothing if every country did the same as what France did in the 1970's onwards, unfortunately nobody wants to do this because Big Oil made it political self-end to support nuclear power.

@RandomGuy-nm6bm Oil bounces like a bouncing ball, oil supply keeps increasing globally but the oil producers keep it artificially low, Europe refuses to invest in viable alternatives. "Environmental" groups also protest wind turbines, not just nuclear. Big Oil wants us to be dependent on largely useless and costly alternatives such as solar panels (useless in northern Europe, but strangely enough not being build in the sunny parts of Europe because environmental groups protest them there).
