More reason we need it, then we'd have an example. It reminds me of Vietnam where we have HUGE corporate controlled areas with their own local governments and police forces, as long as they bribe the Communist Party they can get away with anything.

@malcolmholmes2596 Eh, Germany had huge spaces in Africa they lost, the world wars were fought globally.

It's not about convincing Americans, it's about convincing Asians and Africans, þe developing continents as þe rest of þe world has already been largely developed.

@drdewott9154 To be fair, U.S. Americans in big cities do use public transport all the time, and I see huge arse S.U.V.'s in the rural Netherlands all the time. Europe is more economically off because of higher urbanisation.

This sounds like Mainland China.

Always be careful when someone declares something "dead", usually the people doing that have a vested interest in excluding them. To people with an emotional hatred or a business interest. Think of the Rock fans that proclaimed Disco to be "dead" in those United States of America and Canada, meanwhile it continued to thrive in Europe and became House Music which also became mainstream in North-America during the 1980's, yet there are still people who claim that "disco died" because that has become the popular narrative.

@sirBrouwer To be fair, the rural Dutch village where I live has bigger parking lots than Vatican City.

Depends on how new the place is, in the Netherlands we have a province called Flevoland which was created in 1986, walking there reminds me of New York, only it's slightly easier to get lost as the streets aren't numbered, well, in some places they even are.

In the Netherlands we have parallel roads for pedestrians, bicycles, mopeds, automobiles, Etc. I notice that many countries simply merge most of these which creates chaos and discourages the use of any vehicle other than an automobile. For example I enjoy driving through Germany (a country where you can literally drive as fast as you want) but hate using my bicycle there (confusing roads, random bicycle lames that end real quickly, shared area with pedestrians making it a danger for children).

I'm not surprised he grew up in a small town, most city people eagerly defend bad parts of cities if they never knew better.
