I've seen Indians and Chinese lend out money in the Philippines, they will be at your house every day, other foreigners will get scammed. In fact, be especially weary of people who say "I will pay you back" if you give them money as a gift. Because these people intend to scam you and just instinctually say "I'll pay you back" because they are pathological liars when it concerns money. The last woman I dated before my current girlfriend never left the Philippines and didn't want to go for anything more than a vacation. As I was a few years younger than her and at the time still in my 20's I wasn't exactly planning on retiring in the Philippines, but we both wanted to have kids, I now have a girlfriend that moved to my country because he hates being in the Philippines. The biggest difference between the Philippines and other clan-based societies like Greece, China, India, Etc. is that because there are no divorce laws the men occasionally get full custody and the women are powerless.

Filipino men are also way more likely to do household work or even be stay-at-home fathers than men from other countries. While the food in Manila is amazing and cheap, the food in most of the Philippines is unbearable, I've never felt disgusted to eat until I tried local empanadas or pork stews, Etc. the food in most of the Philippines is really bad. Food is restaurants is amazing, even when you go into rural areas, but most (not all) street food is something that's less appetising than when it comes out of you.
