It's because we've had decades of cultural forces telling women to always be selfish and think of themselves first here, a man in a relationship MUST be in service to the woman's happiness and seeing a relationship as mutual is seen as "misogynistic". Just look at the comments of any video of a Western woman doing anything for her boyfriend / husband, it's always "no man is worth it, don't waste your time" and / or "No, HE should be doing it" it's as if unspoken gender rôles exist for men that women are not allowed to do, ironically by the people who protest the loudest against perceived gender rôles.

The misandric culture is being exported, I hate watching television but the few times I saw T.V. in Vietnam it was the same "Hurr Durr, menz r dumz, wimminz r smart" advertising and they showed off every male as a bumbling baffoon. My guess is that this is what the Middle and Upper classes see, if you look at the lower classes you see women work in the construction and rubbish collecting industries, something that's unthinkable outside of the country.
