To be fair, America is in this position because Neo-Liberal economists kept telling the politicians that having a consumer economy and a service economy is a sign of wealth and that agricultural economies are a sign of poverty. The People's Republic of China also believes this myth, they have outsourced their food production and many local government officials have been selling large swaths of farmland for their enormous real-estate bubble. The Sino-American co-dependence is real, and an economic divorce will hurt both countries badly. But it wouldn't hurt the Communist Party, only whomever sits at their chair at the moment.
