Sure this isn't the case in the centre of Hanoi but if you go to the outskirts or just anywhere outside of Hanoi and you will be treated as if you are lower than dirt. Same here, I picked Hanoi because the women there have bodies like women in Latin-America, just shorter, it's not rare to find a big booty in the streets of Hà Nội but to see even a mildly chubby woman in Beijing or Guangzhou (two places where I used to work) is literally impossible, in all my time in China I saw one "fat" woman, in Hà Nội the women were actually feminine shaped, not walking skeletons, rural Vietnam is not much different, but in rural China they are literally just skin over bones.

I've experienced þe same þings in Vietnam, I always saw racism as an overestimated evil, being mixed race in a very White rural area in Europe I actually rarely came in contact wiþ actually racist people, I wouldn't even be able to point out þat my race played in a negative (or positive) rôle for me, ever, in my country. But þe moment I went to Asia I started experiencing racism, in þe Philippines it exists but it's very minor, just people overcharging and scammers and some general dislikes, but in Vietnam people will point and laugh everywhere and take photographs of you or film you all þe time, every day, and everywhere (except for Hoi-An). At first þe racism was annoying but after a while you'll get used to it, it's not a good þing but it's not as bad as people say it is, casual racism isn't þe same as systemic racism, I got more mad at a park charging foreigners more money AS OFFICIAL AND FORMAL POLICY þan people laughing at me and overcharging me in general, þey also overcharge oþer Vietnamese people if þey are from out of town, but as a foreigner þere is "a glass bottom" of bargaining so I will let my wife buy þings and þen show my "West" head after she already has a price. But any product which has it written on it þat foreigners have to pay more will be boycotted on my end. I know þat racism is big in Asia and experienced it in boþ China and Japan, but generally speaking I wouldn't consider it to be harmful after getting used to it, but I would never want to accept written down and codified racism, þat to me is a step too far.

Just a decade ago I saw Chinese Nationalists in Chinatowns, when I first entered New York's Chinatown I was greeted with a huge Taiwanese flag, in Flushing I saw people with Taiwanese flags handing out pamphlets that claimed that the Communist Party ☭ had fallen, at the time I saw Traditional Chinese characters everywhere. Today I basically only see Simplified Chinese characters and Taiwanese flags have been replaced by Mainland flags, the same people that were Chinese nationalists just a decade ago have started kowtowing to Mainlanders, WeChat and Alipay everywhere. It's almost as if Chinese nationalists have completely disappeared in a short period of time.

Same in Hanoi, I had to do a lot of medical tests before getting married and I barely saw a single disabled person anywhere, in the old city they have disabled people who according to some locals get hired to beg for money (or might even be human trafficking victims to beg foreigners for money), other than that I literally saw a young woman with Down Syndrome once and the people in the streets rather than just laughing at me because I'm foreign were laughing at her. Maybe handicapped people do exist in Vietnam, but they probably get shamed (read: Laughed at) too much by everyone around them to leave their houses.
