In Islamic history the Crusades were largely ignored or seen as "a Christian counterattack" to their earlier conquests, up until the first world war most Islamic countries mostly taught the Mongol invasions as something that destroyed their culture, in fact the Crusaders were just seen as "those people working for the Mongols" after all the Crusader states became Mongol vassals. It was only in light of the European partition of the Ottoman Empire following its defeat during W.W.I that Muslims started seeing themselves as "the victims of early European colonialism".
