  1. It's not a matter of "could". We MUST, if we are going to be able to defend ourselves. Russia will be a constant threat. We need a strong army that doesn't need to wait for USA to act. No offense to Americans, but we can't trust that you won't put a lunatic in the White House. If there is a weak or crazy president in the White House, we in the EU need to be strong enough to deal with Russia ourselves.

  4. Who cares what Russia wants??? The whole point is to stop Russia murdering us, threatening us and telling us what to do. That would be the primary use for an EU defense alliance. We can't sit and wait for the US to help us, since they often won't. And no, it would definitely not do anything to change Ukraine's EU membership. Ukraine is guaranteed to get into the EU now, after how excellently they have performed. The other two I don't know.

  5. Wrong. Russia needs to be obliterated, or at a minimum kept out, for there to be peace in Europe. Russia has proven over the last 100 years over and over again that they can never be trusted.

  6. Agree. We can just keep our armies but have a much closer co-operation. No need to give up our armies. I think the army they're putting together in 2025 is going to be some sort of rapid response. We would still need regular armies as well.

  8. No we don't. If we can protect ourselves, we don't need to sit and wait for USA to come and help us, if they feel like it. (And not, if they don't feel like it). We could defend ourselves, without waiting.

  10. If you think Russia will join the EU in the nearest lifetime, you're very wrong. No country in Europe will vote in Russia for as long as there are people who remember what they are doing in Ukraine now. You're looking at 70 years from now, at the earliest.

  11. As a Swede I would rather join a European defence alliance than NATO too. USA is not reliable enough. USA also doesn't care about European interests.
