  1. If Russia disintegrates, which is looking more and more likely, there might be an option for international bodies to enter what's left of Russia and collect war criminals.

  2. They're not normal soldiers though. They're Russians. By default a Russian isn't normal. Sadism is clearly part of their psyche. It wouldn't surprise me if they rounded up a bunch of criminals from Russian jails and sent them to war with the other soldiers.
