  1. time travel would be great for tourism and research only, like going to the zoo. Look but don't touch. Maybe there is a way of creating a time cocoon where you just look out the window at the past and stepping outside of it would be impossible. That would explain why no one made physical contact with Hawking, they just looked at him from inside an invisible time ship. The other reason could be future people are unsociable or (no offense to Hawking) they don't like his party. 😉
